I hope everyone had a happy Fourth and is enjoying an extra Monday off. Or you’re like me and are busy wondering if the trash truck is, in fact, coming today despite the holiday situation.

Our little family kept pretty busy around here. Rémy’s restaurant group rolled out the soft opening phase for Calle Sol Latin Café and Cevicheria, so we had dinner there to try out a selection of the new menu items. My favorites: the Rocoto Ceviche (nice and spicy) and the Shrimp Mojo. Calle is officially open this week so I’m planning to grab dinner with girlfriends so I can actually experience the full menu.

On the self-care front, I finally got over to OrthoCarolina for an MRI to follow up on my possibly torn ACL. If you want a really expensive 20-minute meditation session, this is certainly one way to go. Something about the ankle weights to keep me from moving in the machine plus the ear plugs to muffle the loud whirring/beeping was oddly calming. It’ll be nice to know on Wednesday whether or not surgery is next up for me. While I’d like to hope my body has spontaneously healed herself, I have a feeling that’s not the case. The old knee just feels shifty.

The rest of the weekend was a blur of cookouts with friends and family. It felt so good to be outside with beautiful food (the grills cranked out black bean burgers and Impossible burgers along with the meat staples) and excellent company, not to mention some wine and puppy/baby pools. Bonus points to Maisie, who almost got her mouth on the brisket that the guys smoked all day Sunday.
