It’s getting chilly outside, so let’s heat up our handstand presses (and other presses!) inside.

WHEN: 3pm-4:30pm on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022

WHERE: The Natural Lab in Plaza Midwood, 933 Louise Ave Suite 102, Charlotte, NC 28204

WHAT: In just 90 minutes, we’ll mindfully cover a lot of moves so you have the right tools to work on improving presses across your practice. This workshop will include:

  • Ways to work toward a handstand press. Everybody’s body is different, so test at least 5 ways out and see where you have a breakthrough.
  • Handstand press variations. Once you’re comfortable pressing, take it even farther with these tricks.
  • Types of presses beyond handstand. Add the control of the press to your practice in different postures.
  • Ways to warm up your body for pressing. Let’s make sure everything is activated and open so all of this actually feels good.

REQUIREMENTS: You are already comfortable practicing handstand or handstand hops (even if you’re not satisfied with how long you’re holding it–yet).

COST: Event is now closed

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Hi! I’m Katie Toussaint, a full-time writer and part-time yoga instructor who has been practicing for 11 years. I regularly teach hot power vinyasa, and I have a passion for focusing on mindfulness, breath work, and syncing breath with intentional movement in my classes. Using techniques we’ll cover in this workshop, I found my own handstand press in 2017.  And there’s nothing more fun than sharing the practice with others.

ABOUT THE HANDSTAND PRESS: The handstand press is a beautifully controlled version of the generic handstand. Rather than using momentum to hop up into a handstand, the practitioner shifts weight forward and up to simply lift the body into the posture. It takes strength, alignment, breath and, for most of us, a lot of work to get there. Enjoy the process.
