I’m not sure why, but this week started to feel like holiday time – like the pace of the days is starting to pick up and there’s a lot to get done. Not in an unpleasant way. It’s probably happening because I’ve been working on some freelance writing on top of the day job, and taking more yoga classes, and bopping around for vet and medical appointments. Good thing my friend got me listening to the new chill YEBBA album. Vibes.
Here are a few highlights from my week.
Coffee adventure: Night Swim
My east Charlotte area FINALLY got another coffee shop! Night Swim opened this past week on Monroe Road and I decided to stop by after an errand of adding air to my car tires (they’re so sensitive to drops in temperature and I kept putting it off, bah). I’ve also just been craving hot drinks because of the chilly, rainy days. I walked out with a Masala Chai with oat milk. So creamy.
Coming home to a professionally cleaned house
I can’t get over how grateful I am that we decided to invest in a having a house cleaner come once a month. I do a quick sweep of the main living area with the vacuum almost every day (because: two white fluffy dogs + fall leaves), and do a little extra cleaning on the weekends.
But it’s insane to think about how much time you can actually spend cleaning your house over the span of a month when you could be investing your time in things that matter more to you – work, side gigs, exercise, cooking, social time. I’d rather have someone who’s more efficient tackle the cleaning at this point in my life.
Checking out my friend’s new house
I brought some wine and snacks when I went to see my friend’s new house in South Charlotte on Tuesday night. I loved this Lantana white bean hummus with cauliflower that I scored at The Fresh Market on the way. I meant to make hummus, but on top of work and a vet appointment, it just didn’t happen.
I got the house tour – it’s always so fun to see what your friends dream up for their homes. Then we sat on her screened-in porch with the outdoor fireplace on and caught up for a couple of hours. So cozy.
Halloween-themed team bonding
My agency’s quarterly team bonding day kicked off the weekend, so of course it involved Halloween costumes and pumpkin carving. One of the directors also whipped up a huge taco-based lunch for everyone. We were on the patio for festivities, so we got to enjoy it all without masks. It almost made life feel normal again.
