Just taking stock of the simple, but good, in life right now. A few healthy things I’m loving this week for my body and mind:
Ultima Replenisher
I’m a salty, heavy sweater when I exercise (glamorous, I know) so I tend to consume an electrolyte drink at least once a day to keep my levels in balance. I’ve been using the Ultima drink mixes for a couple of years now, since I started avoiding artificial sweeteners like aspartame. Ultima is naturally flavored (I love/crave the pink lemonade lately) and uses stevia leaf as a natural sweetener and beet juice for a pop of color. Plus, it includes the hits of potassium, magnesium and sodium that keep me feeling good, particularly during an intense sweat. It’s $40, but for a 90-serving container. Worth it.
Aloha protein bars
These are by far my favorite recent find at Trader Joe’s. They taste like candy bars but are all-natural and vegan, with ingredients like organic brown rice protein, organic pumpkin seed protein, organic dark chocolate and nuts. And a whopping 14 grams of protein. The chocolate fudge brownie and peanut butter chocolate chip hit the sweet spot.
Patio yoga classes at Khali Yoga
WOW have I missed in-person classes. Nothing beats the energy of flowing in the presence of other yogis. I took a $10 patio class at this NoDa studio, taught by Luis. There were probably about 20 other yogis (including two friends I met up with) on the sizable back patio that overlooks a tall fence and foliage. The staff had set up stickers for mat placement, to ensure social distancing. And while I had to give myself permission to let go of any anxiety that I was doing something wrong by being out of the house, I let go pretty quickly as we started to set our breaths and intentions, and as we started to flow. For an hour, I felt free.
