I went for a six-mile jog to kick off my Monday. I opened the gate to the backyard, kicked off my shoes. But rather than rush inside to shower and rush to sign online for work (why am I always rushing?), I took a few minutes to sit outside on the deck with the dog. A few minutes to sip my Ultima electrolyte drink, to finish sweating off my workout, to catch my breath, to truly clear my head and notice the beauty of this morning before starting my work day. Why rush past it?
Morning meditation, post-run
Sweat drops dripping between brows
The icy tang of electrolyte water
The buzz of insects in trees and the not-so-distant crow of a rooster
The clatter/clang/creak of the trash truck
The dog smiling up at a squirrel
A dewy scent slipping through grass, like nighttime
Rainwater on the picnic table like (trembling) glass
Bare toes on the deck, unsplintered/cool
Green sunlight and darker green shadow
Deep, clear breaths, open air
The start of something
