With the onset of fall temps in Charlotte, I’m freezing cold in the morning. Especially after taking Murray for a long, brisk walk. Naturally, I’ve started craving a hot breakfast rather than an icy smoothie. And since I love getting a big hit of protein first thing, I’ve pretty much converted my usual protein smoothie into protein oatmeal.
What I stir into my bowl:
Rolled oats
Hot water
Orgain vanilla bean protein powder
Vital Proteins collagen powder
Blueberries
Hemp seeds
Chia seeds
Kind cinnamon oat granola (as a crispy little topper)
Let it sit for three minutes or so, so the oats soften. And if you need a reminder why to not be afraid to start your day with a carbohydrate base: carbs are your body’s preferred source of fast fuel. And rolled oats are rich in fiber and whole grains, for slower and better digestion. Combined with more than 40 grams of protein, you’ll probably feel satisfied until lunchtime.
