I’m starting to feel the rushed but happy energy of the holidays. Cramming in some freelance writing deadlines and wrapping up work projects before coworkers start taking time off. Running to Trader Joe’s early Saturday afternoon for essentials mixed with Thanksgiving side dish ingredients, fingers crossed the store won’t be mobbed by shoppers (it wasn’t). I’m also subbing a few yoga classes this week at Y2 while teachers take trips to visit family.
But here are a few weekend outings that slowed me down:
Dinner at Calle Sol
I haven’t been eating as much seafood since the weather cooled down (I think hot air puts me in a beachy mood, and cold temps do the opposite), so it was refreshing to dig into white fish ceviche and salad with shrimp on Friday. The bright colors and bustle of Calle Sol always make me feel like I’m at the beach anyway.
Trails with Murray
I took the pup out to Reedy Creek Nature Preserve for a couple of trail miles on Sunday. The sun was bright, the air was crisp and quiet. The pops of fall color are starting to fade a little bit, so I found myself pausing and taking them. Willing them to stay.
Pizza at Emmy Squared
Pizza night is always interesting to me, ever since I recovered from disordered eating. I adopted the culturally rooted mindset in college that carbs are bad and therefore “I’m not a pizza person.” I really still don’t think I’m a pizza person – I never crave it. And I find it dissatisfying as a meal – even if it’s topped with veggies and protein, I want something extra, like a salad or another green side. It doesn’t feel complete otherwise.
I loved the vibe of Emmy Squared. Kind of rustic casual. I got the kale Italian salad and had a thick slice of the vodka pizza. It was good! I enjoyed it. But again, just not something I crave or get really excited about.
Mobile photography
During all of these outings, I also worked on taking some extra photos with my phone. I took a mobile photography class online last week through SkillPop, and have been working to wrangle in photos with better composition and angles, plus more stylized editing while I try to figure out “my own style.” It’s fun. I like the way the thought process of photographing and, after, editing, slows me down. I still have a lot of practicing to do!
